Rhinoplasty in Türkiye: Planning Your Nose Surgery Journey

Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently requested plastic surgery procedures among international patients in Türkiye. Whether your goal is aesthetic, functional or both, careful planning and realistic expectations give you the best chance of a result you are happy with.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is surgery to change the shape or function of the nose. It may be performed to refine the bridge, tip or width of the nose, to correct asymmetry after an injury, or to improve breathing. When the septum — the wall between the nostrils — is also corrected, the procedure is often called septorhinoplasty.
Open and Closed Techniques
- Open rhinoplasty — a small incision is made across the skin between the nostrils, giving the surgeon a direct view of the nasal structures. It is often used for more complex changes.
- Closed rhinoplasty — incisions are made inside the nostrils, so there is no visible external scar. It may be suitable for certain types of changes.
You may also hear about “preservation” or other specialised approaches. The right technique depends on your anatomy and goals, and on your surgeon’s experience — ask why a particular approach is recommended for you.
Preparing for Your Consultation
A thorough consultation is essential. Before you travel, you can usually share photographs for an initial review:
- Clear photographs from the front, both sides, three-quarter angles and from below, in good light
- Details of any breathing problems, allergies, previous nose injuries or surgery
- Your medical history and current medications
- A description of what you would like to change — and what you would like to keep
During the in-person consultation, the surgeon examines your nose inside and out, discusses what is achievable for your features and explains the risks and recovery.
Realistic Expectations
The best rhinoplasty results look natural and balanced with the rest of the face. Your skin thickness, bone and cartilage structure and healing all influence the outcome. Be cautious of promises of a “perfect” nose or of copying a photograph exactly; a good surgeon will tell you honestly what is and is not possible.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies between patients, but a typical course looks like this:
- First week: a splint is usually worn on the nose; swelling and bruising around the eyes are common. Rest with your head elevated.
- Around 1 week: the splint and any stitches are usually removed at a follow-up visit.
- 2–3 weeks: most visible bruising fades and many people return to work and social activities.
- Several months to a year: residual swelling, especially at the tip, gradually settles and the final shape becomes visible.
Most international patients stay in Türkiye for around a week so the splint can be removed before they fly home, but your surgeon will confirm the right timing.
Avoid contact sports, heavy exercise and resting glasses on your nose until your surgeon says it is safe.
Other Plastic Surgery Procedures
Rhinoplasty is one of several aesthetic procedures international patients explore in Türkiye, alongside facelift, breast surgery, liposuction and body contouring. Each has its own assessment, risks and recovery. You can see an overview in our plastic surgery section.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should I stay in Türkiye after rhinoplasty?
Many patients stay around a week so the splint can be removed at a follow-up visit before flying home. Your surgeon will advise based on your recovery.
When will I see the final result?
Most swelling improves within the first weeks, but subtle swelling, especially at the tip, can take up to a year to settle completely.
Can rhinoplasty improve my breathing?
If breathing problems are caused by structural issues such as a deviated septum, functional correction can be included. The surgeon will assess this during your consultation.
